Review #121 GlenDronach Original 12yr: Scotch
Updated: Mar 1, 2021
Score: 7.8 / 10
Distillery: GlenDronach Distillery
Type: Highland Single Malt Scotch
One of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, originally opening it's doors in 1826! So I think they probably have their profile dialed in. The distillery is known best for their use of sherry casks to finish their scotches. So if you like that profile, you may have just found your new home outside of straight sherry.
My personal favorite of their expressions is the 15yr Revival. However, don't let the name fool you, it is actually discontinued. Can't they just change the name at this point?? I hope it comes back for good though. I can guarantee that I'll be one of the first in line.
Whiskey Review:
Nose: Honey, birthday cake, mixed berries with a stronger blueberry note. Toffee and butterscotch mix nicely with the fruits
Palate: Smoked and charred oak. Honey, ethanol, dark chocolate. The berries also transfer over nicely on this one.
Finish: Oak, orange and citrus notes appear. Tannic leather, honey and blueberry return and linger on.
Score: 7.8
Scale:
S+ Sensational - The Pinnacle (9.5+)
A - AXEceptional (astounding) (9-9.5)
B - bravo (step aBove average) (8-8.9)
C - competent (7-7.9)
D - disappointing (6-6.9)
F - flush it down the toilet (fail) (5.9 below)
Availability? Common. This is a great intro Highland scotch and especially sherry finished scotches. It's going to be in the shelf. Another plus is that the price doesn't change much from store to store either.
