Review #139 Chattanooga Whiskey BIB: Bourbon

Updated: Feb 26

Score: 8.5 / 10

Distillery: Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery

Type: Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Founded in 2011, the Chattanooga Whiskey Distillery set out to shake things up a bit. They are creating a malt flavored forward style that they like to call Tennessee High Malt. Obviously not meeting the definition as a Tennessee Whiskey, they are simply labeling it as a Bourbon.

Currently most states are not getting much allocations of this. I believe that will continue and this may end up getting harder and harder to find considering the size of this distillery.

I'm very excited to see what these guys pump out over the next few years. Especially after the MGP phase that they are likely going though currently to get these expression on the market at the beginning.

Whiskey Review:

Nose: Wildly robust bubble gum and strawberry. Like a fresh spring day. Hay that mixes with a grassy caramel. There's a hint of earthy raisin. Deeper in the glass I find a somewhat bitter cake/coffee note (Tiramisu)?

Palate: Creamy vanilla upfront with a light astringent note that is followed up by so much bubble gum throughout the drinking experience. This mixes with a deep brown sugar and dates. Light pepper intermingled with red apples and pears. There's some lemon/lime Sprite action kicking up on subsequent sips. A hint of strawberry lingers around on the back end.

Finish: What do ya know? More bubble gum! There's some rye notes and it's juicy before drying out. Length is moderate and ends with a touch of oak and a shake of dry cinnamon.

Score: 8.5

Scale:

S+ Sensational - The Pinnacle (9.5+)

A - AXEceptional (astounding) (9-9.5)

B - bravo (step aBove average) (8-8.9)

C - competent (7-7.9)

D - disappointing (6-6.9)

F - flush it down the toilet (fail) (5.9 below)

Notes: Availability? Uncommon - Rare. This one is not easy to find as I said, However it's also not on people radar at the moment. IE. If a store has it, it's not going to fly off the shelf. However, finding the store that has it is not as easy task.
