Review #29 Blanton's Gold Edition: Bourbon

Updated: Jun 19, 2020

Score: 9.3 / 10

Distillery: Buffalo Trace

Type: Kentucky Straight

I love GOLD!!!! (Thanks Goldmember from Austin Powers). I really do though. Definitely on of the best whiskey brands. I also love this Lord of the Rings gold elvish text running around the bottle. I just want to pour it and have the text light up to warn me when people are around that want to mooch my top shelf bourbons! Also, only Blanton's Gold and Silver have different colored horses Since Silver is SUPER discontinued by now, this is pretty much it. Movie references aside, I really do love the Blanton's Line. In my opinion Gold and Red are the best ones of the 6 that are currently in normal production . So if you see either of those (Red is only available in Japan), pick them up!. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Hotter than other Blanton's except for Straight from the Barrel, This one come in at 103 proof. Dumped 06-18-18. Barrel 511. Rickhouse 34. Warehouse (Whisper) Eeeehhhhhccchhh! If you want to be in on the jokes and see a great Blanton's lineup including this one check out episode 7 of our whiskey podcast Po It Up here.

Whiskey Review:

Nose: Oak, caramel, cherry / dried fruit mix hit you right away. Raisins, some ethanol, but a good rounded nose.

Palate: Honey, toffee, pepper, cherry / dried fruit, raisins. A fantastic variation of sweet and heat.

Finish: Long Finish, Stings and fades flawlessly. Tons of cherry, leather, oak, sweetness and subtle rye spices

Score: 9.3

Scale:

S+ Sensational - The Pinnacle (9.5+)

A - AXEceptional (astounding) (9-9.5)

B - bravo (step aBove average) (8-8.9)

C - competent (7-7.9)

D - disappointing (6-6.9)

F - flush it down the toilet (fail) (5.9 below)

Notes: Availability? Un-common - Rare. Not sold in the US (yet), However, when it is available in the U.S. later in 2020 I would bet it will be a very hard to get allocated whiskey You can find it easier on shelves of other international countries. This Particular one was from Japan, which get's all Blanton's varieties. If you're traveling around, make a few calls and I bet you can track one down with some leg work.
