Updated: Jun 19, 2020
Score: 7.8 / 10
Distillery: Compass Box
Type: Blended Highland / Speyside Single Malts
Blended whisky from Clynelish, Dailuaine, Teannich and others
I was finally able to snag the entire Myths & Legends set along with a Rogues’ Banquet, something that I have been trying to acquire for some time. Loving everything so far that I have come across with this line, I figured it was time that I finally tried some of their core line.
I found a nifty sampler pack that had three 50ml bottles of The Spaniard, Spice Tree and Peat Monster. What a solid gift or way to try many expressions. Though samplers can be a little pricey for what you get, it definitely beats a full bottle while you're looking to sample. Below is my thorough review of "Spice Tree" from said sampler pack.
Whisky Review:
Nose: Ethanol, sweet honey, green apple and green tea. Charred oak lingers in the background with hints of menthol
Palate: Juicy on the palate but seemingly gritty. Pear, apple and dried apricot team up with a potent spice that envelope the mouth
Finish: Fruits are short lived, but dry cinnamon and bitter lemon rind linger for a while.
Score: 7.8
Scale:
S+ Sensational - The Pinnacle (9.5+)
A - AXEceptional (astounding) (9-9.5)
B - bravo (step aBove average) (8-8.9)
C - competent (7-7.9)
D - disappointing (6-6.9)
F - flush it down the toilet (fail) (5.9 below)
Notes: Availability? Common. This one has been popping up for some time now. I've seen it in a lot of stores
I was most excited to try Spice Tree (no particular reason) of my Compass Box collection, but unfortunately enjoyed the other expressions more.
