Distillery: Slyrs

Type: Bavarian Single Malt

Technically a craft distillery (as most of Germany is when it comes to whisky), Slyrs is the largest distillery. That alone should give you comfort in rolling the dice on this one if you are curious about it.

German whisky hasn't really found its way here to our US store shelves, but soon may explode out of nowhere with some of the new best whisky brands. Germany currently has more distilleries than all of Scotland. I am very excited to see what they come out with in the next 10-20 years. You heard it here first. In 15 years, German expressions of whisky will be in out and available in US stores. Maybe I'll do it myself.....

This sample has gone to many friends that "semi" like whisky and they didn't really like it. However, for the people that have a bit more refined whisky palette, you will find it interesting. It is worth the experience, but with a high price tag, maybe seek it out at a bar while in the actual country. Whisky Review:

Nose: Peach-O's candy, granulated sugar, soft leather, pear all lofting in a virgin oak background

Palate: vanilla is foremost dominate, very buttery, a bit watery, light cinnamon, butterscotch, oak, as the fruits from the nose tend to disappear

Finish: short to medium. Kind of light, a bit tannic, creamy cinnamon frosting as the butter lingers after the finish

Score: 8.4

S+ Sensational - The Pinnacle (9.5+)

A - AXEceptional (astounding) (9-9.5)

B - bravo (step aBove average) (8-8.9)

C - competent (7-7.9)

D - disappointing (6-6.9)

F - flush it down the toilet (fail) (5.9 below)

Notes: Availability? Uncommon. Not sold in the US. Also, the buddy that got this for me went to about 10 stores before he found this. In case that gives you any insight to what you should expect to go through.
