Laphroaig 10yr is one of our favorite whiskys to have around the house at all times. If at any time I look over and it's not there, I'm off to the store. Overall, a phenol-menal whisky brand. If you're out of the loop, phenol level is how peat is measured in whisky. However, it gets a bit boring so let's spice it up here with the Triple Wood Select offering.

If you've never heard of Laphroaig, well...... you're going to get peated! This also doesn't disappoint in that department. However, with this being finished in port and sherry casks after the initial maturation, there are a lot of different flavors that come out of it that are worth exploring. A lot dryer tastes and finish really make you think of a wine experience in a peated whiskey.

Is it worth the 2x markup from Laphroaig 10yr? Meh, probably not. It's better in my opinion, but I can see it as more of an acquired taste. However, I love this distillery and dang it. I'm going to try them all!!!

Whiskey Review:

Nose: Peppermint, peat, honey, lime, snicker doodle dough

Palate: Sizzles the palette. Sherry, plum, medium - not over powering peat, orange and lime and other citrus notes

Finish: Long and very dynamic finish. Peat rises to the front, pine, spearmint continues to linger long after

Score: 8.6

S+ Sensational - The Pinnacle (9.5+)

A - AXEceptional (astounding) (9-9.5)

B - bravo (step aBove average) (8-8.9)

C - competent (7-7.9)

D - disappointing (6-6.9)

F - flush it down the toilet (fail) (5.9 below)

Notes: Availability? Common. Find this one at pretty much any reasonably sized store. Like I said... grab it if you're looking for that next peater to keep things fresh.
