Review #91 Russell's Reserve 10yr: Bourbon

Score: 8.3 / 10

Distillery: Wild Turkey

Type: Kentucky Straight Bourbon

With more than 100 years combined knowledge of the master distillers, Russell's Reserve 10yr is quickly becoming one of my highest rated best whiskey brands for it's very cheap price point. Part of Wild Turkey's core line, this is an expression that bridges the gap between the mediocre 101 and the Rare Breed. New to sipping Bourbon? This is a very highly recommended starting point.

I can't say enough good things abo

ut this bourbon, so I'll let you decide for yourself. What I will add is that the single barrel version of this whiskey (red label vs white) is slightly better than this expression. However, it's not worth almost 2x the price point increase. I could make this same point for a lot of bourbons though. So the most important thing is enjoy it and Po It Up!

Whiskey Review:

Nose: Red apple, lime / citrus, fairly strong cinnamon, toasted oak, and earthy overtones leads to a pleasant mixture of scents.

Palate: Still earthy and muddy, fresh ground cinnamon sticks, gingerbread cookies, ginger, and red apple still shines through.

Finish: Long finish. Purple grapes, cinnamon and a lingering toasted oak. No ethanol as you should expect, but a solid poor.

Score: 8.3

Scale:

S+ Sensational - The Pinnacle (9.5+)

A - AXEceptional (astounding) (9-9.5)

B - bravo (step aBove average) (8-8.9)

C - competent (7-7.9)

D - disappointing (6-6.9)

F - flush it down the toilet (fail) (5.9 below)

Notes: Availability? Common. Another reason why this is such a good starting point. If you listen to the podcast you'll know this is a solid stat line. Has a decent age statement, no added spirits or grain alcohols, not 40% abv. You know the rest. Get it!
