Review #94 The Macallan 12yr: Scotch

Score: 7.8 / 10

Distillery: Macallan

Type: Highland Single Malt Scotch

I honestly can't think of a better flagship scotch. I remember wanting to step into the world of scotch a while back, and this was the very first bottle that I ever purchased. I researched it, and read countless reviews. I'll save you the time. It's pretty good, but also one of the best advertised scotches around. So if you have not heard of it. You definitely should have.

Matured exclusively in sherry casks, It pulls those notes directly onto the palate. With age statements going away throughout the world of scotch whisky, it's nice to know that this 12yr isn't going anywhere anytime soon. This is likely one of the most abundantly produced scotches in the world. Definitely one of the best overall scotch whisky brands!

Whiskey Review:

Nose: Angel food cake, honey, fresh dates, ethanol and sherry mixes. Caramel, vanilla and a faint maple syrup.

Palate: Huge rush of tart caramel, maybe a lemon tartness? More ethanol than a typical 12yr, fresh oak.

Finish: Medium in length. Ethanol continues to ramp up, a bit of a younger taste. Could be the sherry in this one. Raisins, Maple syrup, faint milk chocolate on the backend

Score: 7.8

Scale:

S+ Sensational - The Pinnacle (9.5+)

A - AXEceptional (astounding) (9-9.5)

B - bravo (step aBove average) (8-8.9)

C - competent (7-7.9)

D - disappointing (6-6.9)

F - flush it down the toilet (fail) (5.9 below)

Notes: Availability? Common. Another reason why it is such a great intro scotch. Is it the best? No. However, if you can stomach it just fine there is a vast world of scotch to move onto after this. Your journey is just beginning.
